Welcome upstairs! At the top there's an abandoned stone foundation, which is being transformed into a kitchen garden - 'The Upper Kitchen Garden'.
The old cement pillars mark the entrance. The foundation is filled with soil and the goutweed has been spreading its stubborn roots for many years. I've had the area covered by a tarpaulin for almost two years and last autmn I began to remove the roots by hand.
Up here there are bacciferous shrubs and Jerusalem Artichokes. Hopefully, there will also be Artichokes growing there this summer. I sewed the seeds last Monday and they have already sprouted! This is what the area looks like from above, covered in snow:
Beacause our property is narrow and terraced, my kitchen garden will be divided into three different areas. 'The Middle Kitchen Garden' consists of vegetables, black currants and strawberries. 'The Lower Kitchen Garden' is not set up yet, but the vegetable seeds are bought and waiting to be sewn. More of that later...
