Heavenly Helleborus

One of my favourites this time of year, is Helleborus. The flowers look somewhat vulnerable, although the plants seem to be very tough. Despite chilly winds and occasional frost - my Helleborus orientale has been in bloom since October. And new foliage and new flowers are on their way...

The same goes for my double Helleborus niger. Big, heavy flowers from autumn - and new ones keep appearing. The only thing with this one, is that you have to bend down to be able to see the true beauty of the flower.

Helleborus atrorubens is a newcomer in my garden. I found a flowering plant, in the shop of the Botanical gardens here in Gothenburg, a couple of weeks ago, and I immediately fell in love. Although the flowers are quite small the dark, purple colour with greenish shadings is outstanding!

Finally, Helleborus abchasicus. This plant has just started its bloom - and it's so beautiful! Big, purple flowers - hopefully throughout Spring...

Wishing you all a nice week-end /Katarina

Hi Katerina,
Thanks for stopping by my blog.
What beautiful helleborus. They are one of my favourite plants. I joke that I bought this garden because of them!
Lovely photos.

Karen

I too am a Hellebore fanatic. I have an inter-specific hybrid, Helleborus x nigercors 'Green Heron' that is blooming in my garden now. It helps to remind me that spring is coming!

Hi Katarina: Your Helleborus are exquisite. The freckles and the detail just make for a lovely flower. We can't grow them in my Florida garden due to the heat and humidity but I am sure enjoying seeing them in other gardens around the world.

Have a great weekend.

Hellebores are a favourite of mine too. I only have one, planted just last summer and was so looking forward to the blooms, but the one bud has become mushy, so I may have to wait until next year :(
Your photos are beautiful!

Åhh ljuvliga julrosor! De är verkligen favoriter såhär års. Jag köpte några med Linda Lunda i höstas och jag är mycket spänd på att få se dem i blom när jag kommer till Göteborg över påskdagarna. Ha en fin vecka!

Through the blog of Shirl I found the way to you. What an interesting blog you have...and you seem to be fond of roses (according to the name of your weblog) too. And here I see another "love" of mine, your wonderful hellebores. I'll certainly come back again. Easter greetings from Switzerland.
